Undergraduate Teaching Assistants

Peer-led Undergraduate Learning, Support and Engagement

The Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, or UGTA, program offers academically successful Fulton Schools students the opportunity to support faculty and fellow students beyond regular class hours. UGTAs foster an engaging, collaborative learning environment by leading office hours, managing discussion boards and providing academic support.

Need support from a UGTA?

How UGTAs can assist you

UGTAs provide academic help and guidance outside regular class time, including:

  • Hosting office hours.
  • Answering course-related questions.
  • Reviewing concepts and helping with assignments.
  • Preparing exam review sessions.

Note: Office hours and contact methods may vary by course. Check your course syllabus or Canvas announcements to see when and how to meet with your UGTA.

Why become a UGTA?

Becoming a UGTA is a chance to build valuable professional skills and contribute meaningfully outside the classroom environment. As a UGTA, you will:

  • Strengthen your communication and leadership skills.
  • Gain hands-on experience in academic teaching.
  • Build professional relationships with faculty and peers.
  • Add valuable experience to your resume.
  • Receive a stipend on a biweekly basis throughout your assignment.

  • Regularly meet with your faculty member to prepare for course activities and assignments.
  • Enroll in and complete a UGTA-specific training course each semester

Steps to apply

Access the portal

Students offered a position or course assignment will receive an email with an offer letter.

Follow the instructions in the offer letter to accept your offer. A signed and completed letter of offer is required to be hired for each course you are offered.

Once you have accepted a position, you will need to apply to the Student Employment Office.

You must submit BOTH applications to be formally hired and accept your assigned position.
