PULSE

Peer Undergraduate Learning, Support and Engagement

What is PULSE?

PULSE, or Peer Undergraduate Learning, Support and Engagement, is a hub for peer-led academic support programs offered by the Fulton Schools of Engineering. These programs connect students with trained undergraduate peers who support learning, engagement and student success both in and outside of the classroom.

Whether you’re looking for help in class, outside class, or through tutoring, PULSE provides high-quality support from fellow students who’ve been in your shoes. You can also get involved by becoming a UGTA, UGLA, Section Leader, or tutor to build leadership and teaching experience.

How PULSE can assist you

  • Demonstrating improved understanding of complex course material across disciplines.
  • Learning to set achievable academic goals.
  • Applying effective study habits, problem-solving skills and organizational techniques to foster academic independence and ensure continued success.
  • Building self-assurance in their ability to learn, articulate questions clearly and engage actively in their education.
  • Developing curiosity and perseverance that extend beyond course requirements into personal and professional growth.

Why participate in PULSE?

  • Develop working and mentorship relationships with faculty; gain access to valuable resources and networking opportunities; and gain exposure to various teaching methods and insight into academia.
  • Build confidence by deepening their understanding of course content and mastering skills.
  • Develop improved leadership, organizational, time management and communication skills. Display improved professional skills and reflect on growth.
  • Apply transferable skills learned through professional development trainings and daily interaction and participation with students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to foster a sense of belongingness and inclusivity by actively contributing to a positive learning community and engaging in collaborative problem-solving.

Tutoring

Tutoring is free and available for many Fulton Schools undergraduate courses. Meet with trained tutors who can help you review material, solve problems and prepare for exams.

Undergraduate teaching assistants

Undergraduate teaching assistants, or UGTAs, hold office hours, answer questions and help guide your learning beyond lecture time. They’ve taken the course before and are here to help you succeed.

Undergraduate learning assistants

Undergraduate learning assistants, or UGLAs, help facilitate active learning in flipped or lab-based classrooms. They guide group discussions, clarify material and support real-time learning during class sessions.
