Design Experiences

Design, build and engineer!

Welcome to Design Experiences, an innovative program aimed at empowering students to enhance their entrepreneurial and creative thinking skills. Participants engage in a variety of activities, including skill-building sessions, hands-on workshops, and exciting hackathons, all designed to cultivate essential technical and problem-solving abilities vital for future career success.

Through collaborative projects with peers and networking opportunities with industry professionals, students gain valuable insights and practical experience in addressing real-world challenges. This program not only fosters resilience and adaptability but also encourages participants to consider the broader social impact of their innovative solutions. Join us as we inspire students to become impactful change-makers!

We have a series of events (Devils Invent), labs (Honeywell Innovation Lab and E-Spaces) and student spaces (3D Print and Laser Cutter Lab) throughout the engineering buildings designed to support student projects and events.

Upcoming Events!

AI-Based Object Detection Workshop

Ever wondered how computers see the world around us and recognize objects?

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll build a real-time object detection system using industry-standard tools like Python, OpenCV, and YOLO (a deep-learning vision model), integrated with ESP32-CAM hardware. Learn to stream live video, detect real-world objects, and trigger instant alerts by building a working project from scratch.

Location: Engineering Center F Wing, ECF 120
Day: February 26, 2026
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Bluetooth Controlled Car Workshop

Join us for an interactive, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the fundamentals of using the L298N motor driver with an ESP32 and explore how to control devices wirelessly using Bluetooth. Participants will build a fully functional Bluetooth-controlled car while gaining practical experience in motor control and embedded systems
Limited spots available — first come, first served!

Date: February 23rd, 2026
Time: 12:30PM – 2PM
Location: Changemaker West, VDP 123, Arizona State University West Valley Campus

Sustainable Sips Challenge

Join us at Arduino ECG Heart Rate monitor Workshop on January 28th, 2026, at 2 PM in ECG 140 for the Sustainable Sips Challenge! Get a free reusable water bottle at check-in, reuse it and save raffle tickets during the event, to win exciting prizes.
The goal is simple: reduce single-use plastic waste, encourage sustainable habits, and make sustainability FUN.

Design Workshops and Challenges

Whether you are just starting out or building on existing skills, our Design Workshops and Challenges offer valuable experience in tackling real-world engineering challenges.

Our goal is to foster an inclusive and dynamic learning environment where students can grow at their own pace and develop the skills essential for success in design and engineering!

These workshops and challenges cater to all skill levels, from beginners with no prior experience to more advanced students looking to deepen their knowledge. Participants will engage with various tools and technologies, including electronics, programming, CAD design, and prototyping to enhance creativity and problem-solving abilities

Devils Invent

Devils Invent is a series of engineering and design challenges. Participating students are encouraged to design, build, and implement innovative solutions to challenging problem statements submitted by community, industry and University partners.

Devils Invent events are perfect for students who are committed to making a difference and developing an entrepreneurial mindset. The challenges are open to all ASU students of all majors.

Design Courses

The Engineering Projects in Community Service program, known as EPICS, is a national award-winning social entrepreneurship program.

Teams design, build and deploy systems to solve engineering-based problems for charities, schools and other not-for-profit organizations over the course of a semester.

InnovationSpace is a transformative experience, where students build the skills of the future and develop their capacity for collaboration and innovation as they produce extraordinary projects.

Sign up for one of the diverse projects and work with clients, sponsors and team members from other schools in a brand new space at the Novus Innovation Center.
