Sun Devil Motorsports – Formula SAE (IC & EV) is Arizona State University’s Formula SAE program, consisting of both Internal Combustion and Electric competition teams. Students from engineering, business, and other disciplines design, manufacture, test, and compete with formula-style race cars while gaining hands-on experience in engineering, project management, manufacturing, and leadership. Both teams compete annually in the Formula SAE Collegiate Design Series at Michigan International Speedway.

Sun Devil Motorsports – Formula SAE (IC & EV) is Arizona State University’s Formula SAE program, consisting of both Internal Combustion (IC) and Electric (EV) competition teams. Based on ASU’s Tempe campus, our multidisciplinary organization provides students from engineering, business, and many other fields the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge through the design, manufacture, testing, and competition of formula-style race cars.

Operating like a small engineering company, students manage every aspect of the program—from vehicle design and manufacturing to finance, marketing, sponsorship, and project management. Members gain hands-on experience using professional engineering tools while working alongside industry partners and alumni to develop the technical and leadership skills sought after in today’s automotive and technology industries.

Each year, both teams compete in the Formula SAE Collegiate Design Series at Michigan International Speedway, where they are evaluated in engineering design, cost analysis, business presentation, and dynamic performance events against universities from around the world. Through this experience, students develop the technical, business, and leadership skills necessary to become successful engineers while representing Arizona State University on an international stage.
